He Knows My Name

I heard a song in church today and made note of it that I will be listening to it again today. It was a song by Tommy Walker sang by a young lady at church> it was so inspiring that I remembered without looking at my notes. Oh what a wonderful Lord he is. We need to get back to the days when we used to learn songs in church. We have relaxed our minds so much that they don't even remember wonderful and simple songs like this.

Our Maker would like us to remember his name as well. We need to live a life that ensures he knows our names.

The Race of Life

I was hungry lastnight and was trying to decide on where to buy my Jerk-Oxtail Rice and Peas Combo whilst drinking a cup of chocolate milk in the car. I asked James what he thought of either Jamaica house or Sunrise Restaurant. In considering the price, he decided Jamaica house was the best. before placing my order, i saw a bumper sticker with the flag of Jamaica and the words "Worlds Fastest Humans and 9.58" sticking on a fridge in the restaurant. I looked around to see how reflective that was of the people in the restaurant and laughed. No one in the restaurant could run a race and reflect that time. I started thinking about the flags association with Usain Bolt and all the fame he has gathered since he set the world record a few years ago. He run a race that was set in a place with the entire world witnessing. There were many participants in the race but like everything in life someone had to be first and someone had to be last. "We are all in a race" said the deacon at my church on sunday morning after my dinner from Jamaica House. We are in a race to heaven. Whats the first thing that comes to mind when you hear of 'Race'. Is it the thought of your class or genes, or the journey you have to run from point a to b or perhaps the 2008 Indian Action film that made Anil Kapoor the world class actor that he is today. Race brings to mind many things and gets complicated when it is associated with life. I have never been able to provide a definition to life that makes the most sense to me as a person. I can teach and tell people what life is or what life is about but i have never understood it myself. You may call me a hypocrite but try explaining life to your self and see if you can come to the right understanding. Why does life end and why does it begin. When it ends whats happens to it. What is life and how is it characterized. How can I write about the race of life and how did i figure that life is a race. I decided to associate Race and life together to create a better understanding of the word life. I remember the days at the Wesley Grammar Junction when I would tell James to race me from the junction to the house to see who would get the bottom bigger bed on the bunk set we shared. Our race had a beginning and an end. It was initiated by a conversation and had a reward as our motivation. On the days that I cared to win, I would put in all effort to run that race. When I won, I would boast and tease with my rewards, encouraging or upsetting him before the next race. In P.E., we would set a race between mates and typically the fastest would be awarded the best mark in the class. We would race for positions on the track team eventhough I was never selected, I made the effort to tryout at every session. What then is the race of life. Why does life have to be a race. Why do we run in our lives. Who initiated this race for us and what is the factor of motivation we have that influences the outcome of the race. Who are we running against in life. What do we win for this race of life. A great friend of mine made a point of telling me that, as christians the race we are in is not a competitive one- its the race of moving from our sinful ways to becoming more like christ to prepare us for heaven. Paul did say 'i have fought the good fight, i have finished the race, i have kept the faith. now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which is the Lord, the righteous Judge will award to me on that day—and not only to me but also to all who have longed for his appearing (2Timothy 4:7-9). There are many points to analyze in this point she made. She answered most of the questions about the race of life, but I was no convinced that, thats all our race is about. I needed to change from my sinful ways to become more like Christ to win a crown of righteouness in Heaven. In words, it seems so easy but becoming like Christ, with all that we have heard about him, would not be easy. What sort of race will I be in becoming like Christ for a crown in Heaven.
